PokerStars Issues Tentative 2016 WCOOP Schedule

The World Series of Poker, which is now in the rearview mirror except for the November Nine, is the live poker festival that tournament players make sure to have marked on their calendars every year. Sure, it has perhaps lost a little bit of its luster with the rise of other great major tournaments around the world, but the WSOP is still the gold (bracelet) standard. However, for online players, the tournament series that everyone looks forward to is the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Held annually since 2002, it is the most prestigious poker festival on the internet.

wcoop_logo_30sept_14-thumb-450x300-240854On Friday, PokerStars released the tentative schedule for this year’s WCOOP, which is slated to begin September 4th and run for three weeks. Should the schedule remain essentially the same, the 2016 WCOOP will be much bigger than last year’s, with 82 total events compared to 70 in 2015.

Last year, much of the hype for the WCOOP revolved around the $51,000 Super High Roller event, billed as the highest buy-in tournament in online poker history. That event is off the schedule this year, BUT…there is a new $102,000 Super High Roller event, so the deep-pocketed players still have something with which to separate themselves from the plebs.

Small talk out of the way, here is the preliminary 2016 WCOOP schedule, in a gigantic copy-and-paste job from the PokerStars blog:
