Cake Poker’s Shift to “Win Cake”: Expanding Gaming Options
Speaking of the troubled Revolution Network, a news item this week has Revolution co-owner Cake Poker rebranding itself away from its original name, Cake Poker, and on to a new brand, Win Cake.
The new home site for Win Cake is already up and running at wincake.eu, which is separate from the site that Cake… err… Win Cake, maintains for US players, called Juicy Stakes, which is often called Stony Stakes these days for the turtle like speed of its cashouts.
Win Cake, which is still owned and operated by Curacao-incorporated Cake Entertainment N.V., put up only a brief statement on its new domain about the change. (Americans can only access the site via proxy service, and are otherwise still directed over to Juicy Stakes.) According to Win Cake:
Win Cake opened its tables in 2006, as Cake Poker. In the years to follow, Cake Poker would expand its menu with casino and skill games. In 2013, Cake Poker remodeled and was re-introduced as Win Cake. Poker, Casino, Jackpots and Games are all part of the Win Cake line up and we’re not done yet. You can bet on sports and live betting to follow.
Win Cake strives to give players more. More rewards, more bonuses, more entertainment, and more wins. Home of Gold rewards, Win Cake continues to award new and loyal players with one of the industry’s most unique and innovation rewards including Gold Chips and Gold Cards. Players of all stakes and levels really can earn a bigger piece of the action at Win Cake.
The site’s planned expansion into other forms of online gaming is probably a part of why they’re shifting away from the old “Cake Poker” brand — that, and trying to slide away from all of the bad SEO associated with the ongoing Revolution Network / Lock Poker / Cake Poker mess. Cake and Lock both own significant portions of Revolution, and neither one seems to have a lot of liquid assets, which is another likely reason for some of this churning and rebranding.
Win Cake has already added blackjack and other casino games to its online offerings, and if the site’s content can be trusted, plans to add live sports wagering within a matter of weeks:
So what’s up with all this brand differentiation? Well, the original spinoff for the US, Juicy Stakes, was likely created with more of a defensive posture in mind, as it came after a series of payment-processor raids targeting various US-facing poker sites. Juicy Stakes’ creation imitated that of the Bodog’s creation of the Bovada brand, also with the US market in mind.
But note also that “Juicy Stakes” was never created as “Juicy Stakes Poker,” which in light of this recent switch from Cake Poker to Win Cake, may represent a bit of forethought on the part of Cake’s owners. While there’s no real potential for any Cake-related sites to become licensed in the US in the foreseeable future, there’s also not really a need to close the door preemptively on other forms of gaming, should lightning strike somewhere unexpectedly.
As such, both the Juicy Stakes spinoff and the shift from Cake Poker to Win Cake can be seen as separate facets of the same long-term strategy — a shifting to take advantage of likely online gaming opportunities as they occur.
