WSOP Announces Dates for 12 More Events on 2020 Slate
The World Series of Poker has announced the dates for 12 more of the events to be contested at the 2020, bringing to 15 the total of events that the WSOP has released to date. This week’s announcement by the WSOP continues its recent-years practice of offering the upcoming summer’s events a few at a time, adding awareness for the WSOP during a time of year when it otherwise wouldn’t receive a lot of attention.
Just a week earlier, the Caesars-owned WSOP announced the dates for the 2020 Main Event along with a couple of early-series entries, the “Big 50” event on the opening weekend in late May and the traditional Seniors event in mid-June. Among the next dozen events to be confirmed are the other three special, closed-field events that have become a part of WSOP tradition.
As expected, the $500 Casino Employees event gets things underway at the 2020 WSOP. The employees event will be Event #1 and it will open the action on May 27, 2020, getting underway at 3 pm. The Ladies Event (with its official $10,000/$1,000 buy-in) begins on June 17, just one day ahead of the already announced Seniors tourney. This year’s Super Seniors event, open to players age 60 and up, begins on June 22. Since many Super Seniors participants also play in the Seniors tourney, this clustering offers would-be players the chance to plan up to a week of WSOP-related activity.
While all of these are official ring events, they do not count as points-earning tourneys toward the 2020 WSOP’s annual Player of the Year honors.
Of course, many of our readers want the details on the nine true open-field events whose dates were finalized this week. The latest update offers confirmed dates for most of the big-field events that serve as weekend “anchors” throughout the seven-weeks-plus series. These events include the Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Double Stack, Tag Team, Colossus, Crazy Eights, Mini Main Event, Little One for One Drop and The Closer. Each of these events offers multiple starting flights or re-entry opportunities — and, in some cases, both — and each typically draws a few thousand entries, filling the Rio Convention Center’s available tables.
