WSOP Releases Its 2017-18 International Circuit Slate
The World Series of Poker keeps rolling out the news amid the cycle of interest surrounding the ongoing WSOP Main Event. This time out, it’s something special for our global readers – the schedule for the upcoming WSOP International Circuit series.
According to the WSOP, there are already 13 stops scheduled, although the specific dates for a couple of the stops have yet to be released. Nor is that all; most of the stops the International Circuit has announced are in the 2017 portion of the just-released slate, and the WSOP expects that several more stops will be added, especially to flesh out that 2018 portion of the schedule.
Now in its fourth year, the WSOP’s International Circuit Series continues to gain ground on the global scene, and a quick glance at the 13 scheduled stops shows that it technically includes all six widely populated continents. (The Tbilisi, Georgia stop is part of Asia, and St. Maarten, in the Caribbean, is considered part of North America.
The 2017-18 WSOP International Circuit slate begins next month with stops in Holland and Argentina, and each calendar month through next May – when the 2018 WSOP in Las Vegas takes center stage – there’ll be an International Circuit stop somewhere around the globe.
According to the WSOP, “Like the U.S. domestic circuit, the International track will feature two qualifiers per stop for the WSOP Global Casino Championship. A Main Event winner and the Casino Champion will each win automatic entry into the season-culminating event, in addition to the gold WSOP Circuit ring and prize money from that event. The International and U.S. tours collide in the season-culminating Global Casino Championship in the summer of 2018.”
However, there is one difference in Global Casino Championship qualifiers. Per the WSOP, and as in the 2016-17 season, there are no “at-large” qualifications on the International stops. Thus, the International portion is expected to contribute 34 qualifiers to the Global Casino Championship.
International Circuit players can qualify for that 2017-18 Global Casino Championship eiher by winning an International Circuit Main Event or by winning a “Casino Championship,” defined as the player at each stop who accumulates the most points throughout the gold ring schedule at that international stop. All these qualifiers will then be awarded seats into next year’s Global Casino Championship.
According to Gregory Chochon, the WSOP Director in charge of international events, “Our partner casinos have done a terrific job bringing the WSOP brand and experience to their properties. The WSOP International Circuit is here to stay and we look forward to continually improving the experience and prize pools for the players.”
